Dude, that is so funny. I just watched that commercial this weekend at my dad's for the first time. Gotta get those toxins out, or quit eating isotopes.

My favorite part is when they show you where all of the harmful things are on the dirty pads. I was a bit skeptical at first, but then when I actually saw all of the horrible stuff in my body, I was sold.

So in knitting, there are only two stitches: the knit and the purl, which is a reversed knit.
If you knit a piece, and purl another, they will look exactly the same!
But by combining the knit and purl, you create patterns.

In crocheting, the different stitches (half, single, double, triple, etc.) change the length of the stitch between the rows.

They both have techniques for skipping/adding stitches, and de/increasing.

So, knitting's patterns come from arranging stitches, and crocheting's patterns come from arranging holes.
I've only done very basic patterns in knitting so far, but that's my current observation.
